Can Spain win the World Cup 2022 Qatar?

The winning squad of Spain that won the World Cup in 2010 is almost gone with only a few players left in the squad. The previous few editions of the World Cup have been unlucky for Spain and they could not even get to the last rounds of the World Cup.

World Cup 2022 Qatar Odds: Spain +500 (5th Position)

The upcoming WC is another opportunity for the Spaniards to mark their dominance in the world again. It can be achieved with the help of the new squad which is filled with bright, young and ambitious talents. We all can agree they are not better than the 2010 Spain squad but still they have the potential to win this big title for their country.

Goalkeeper:

The most important position to handle for Spain as they no longer had young Sergio Ramos and Pique to stop the attacks. Earlier the team used to rely greatly on Casillas but after his departure, things haven’t been going too well in this position. A lot of us are expecting David De Gea to start for Spain in the WC 2022 but sadly Luis Enrique has dropped him and will likely use Unai Simon from (Athletic Bilbao) as his main goalkeeper. A decision which is criticized by everyone who knows how good De Gea has been performing recently for Manchester United. Although Enrique has backed his decision by saying “A goalkeeper should start the play and generate the first superiority, they must dominate the aerial play”.

The selected keeper Unai Simon is also a decent choice but everyone expected the best player available. Other than this player two other goalkeepers have also been called up for Spain Robert Sanchez (Brighton) and David Raya (Brentford).

Defence:

The Spanish defence has always seen some of the most iconic players in the history of the sport. Earlier FC Barcelona legend Carles Puyol used to dominate this position and now for more than a decade Sergio Ramos is doing it. It can also be understood that it is the last World Cup for Ramos and he has to give the helm to the future talents of Spain. Unfortunately, Ramos won’t be starting for the next World Cup as his form has declined recently.

The new faces of Spain are no less passionate and talented and with that, it can be said that the future is in safe hands. We can expect Cesar Azpilicueta, Chelsea, Dani Carvajal, Real Madrid, Jordi Alba, Barcelona, Eric Garcia, Barcelona, and Pau Torres, Villarreal to start for Spain. Other than these players they also have Inigo Martinez, Athletic Bilbao, Marcos Alonso, Chelsea and Diego Llorente (Leeds United) in reserves.

Midfield:

People say that Spain is the land of great midfielders. The claim is very much true as we have seen plenty of great midfield talents throughout the years from Alfredo De Stefano to Xavi. However, the latest young midfielders have a lot to prove and a legacy to keep. The team will heavily rely on some of their older and experienced midfielders such as Sergio Busquets (Barcelona) and Koke (Atletico Madrid). These two can start with other promising players depending upon the intensity of the fixtures.

The other starting players would be Marcos Llorente (Atletico Madrid), Gavi (FC Barcelona), Rodri (Manchester City), Carlos Soler (Valencia) and Dani Olmo (RB Leipzig).

Attack:

In recent years the strikers have not been very sharp and that is one of the reasons for the downfall of the Spanish team. It would be very important for Luis Enrique to select players as per strategy so that he can effectively use them. Spain has decent and talented strikers ready to start such as Alvaro Morata (Atletico Madrid), Ansu Fati, (FCBarcelona), Pablo Sarabia (PSG), Ferran Torres (FC Barcelona), Marco Asensio (Real Madrid) and Raul de Tomas (Espanyol).

Winning the World Cup again is not impossible for a country that has done it in the past. The starting lineup is good and with the right direction they can go on to win the biggest international title again.
