Haaland continues to hunt down every scoring record in England while Núñez has become the face of the emerging Saudi Pro League. Nunez left Liverpool for Hilal after showing great potential in the English league and was a fan favourite.

The Norwegian striker is comparatively young yet very beneficial to his country. Haaland was the footballer of the year for Norway for 2 years in a row and it looks like he is going to win plenty more. Norway does not have a very strong team and it would be a big task for Haaland to win an international title with Norway. Haaland is officially the greatest player in Norwegian history. As of March 2026 he has scored 55 goals in just 48 appearances making him Norway’s all time top scorer. He is the fastest player to ever reach 50 international goals and he is the reason Norway is finally competing at the highest level again.
Nunez is from Uruguay, a country known for giving the football world exceptional strikers in the past. The latest addition would be Darwin Nunez who can make it to this list. Compared to Norway there are quite some players in the position Nunez plays. Darwin has taken over the mantle from Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani. He has over 36 caps and 13 goals for Uruguay. He was a key figure in their 2024 Copa América run where his energy and physical presence helped Uruguay secure a podium finish.

He is in a long term relationship with fellow footballer Isabel Haugseng Johansen and they welcomed their first son in December 2024. Darwin’s story is one of incredible resilience. He grew up in the “Pirate” neighborhood in Artigas where his family struggled with poverty. His mother used to collect bottles to sell so he could eat and his brother gave up his own football dreams so Darwin could succeed. Is Nunez better than Haaland?
It would be unfair to pick any one of these two great and highly promising players. Both two players show signs of a great attackers but we do not know how it will end for them in future. One thing that we do know is that Haaland is much better than Nunez at this stage and he is in debate with the best of talents worldwide. In the case of Nunez, there is a lot that he has left to do if he wants to overtake Haaland in the future.
Erling Haaland is the ultimate goal scoring machine. If you give him the ball in the box he scores. He is more disciplined and more efficient and his career goal ratio is something we haven’t seen since the days of Pelé. He is arguably the best “pure” striker the game has ever seen.
Darwin Núñez is the ultimate “match winner” through sheer physical force and unpredictability. He creates more chances for himself and others through his incredible pace and work rate. While he is less clinical than Haaland his ability to stretch defenses and win games with a moment of magic (like his 2025 title winning goals at Brentford) makes him a special talent.
The age gap between these two players is very less and thus making the rivalry more real and challenging. It would not be wrong to say that Erling Haaland is better than Darwin Nunez in all aspects right now.
