History of Tottenham Hotspur F.C.:

Founded in 1882 by the Hotspur Cricket Club with the majority of its members being schoolboys from Tottenham grammar school the club used to play matches on public property ( Tottenham Marshes). The initial name of the club was Hotspur Football Club which had to be changed over an already existing club (Hotspur FC) and so “Tottenham” was added to their name. The Colour of the Tottenham kit was changed quite a lot in the start. The colour timeline goes as all blue kit (1882-1885), light blue and white halves (1890-1896), red tops with blue shots (1896-1898) and white shirts with navy blue shots (1898 – present ).

Tottenham was promoted to the Southern League in 1895. John Cameron was elected as the player-manager and is one of the main reasons behind their first FA Cup success in 1901. They were the first Southern League team to win the FA Cup. Tottenham achieved promotion to the Second League of the Football League in 1908 and the following year they got promoted to the First Division. Soon after their promotion World War kicked off and later they got relegated to the Second Division of the Football League the war.

Post World War I era wasn’t prosperous either as the team was always struggling to win the title but this doesn’t mean Tottenham wasn’t a good team. Tottenham was always in the top 10 spots in these years but luck abandoned their side for some considerable amount of time. After World War II Rowe was elected as the club manager, he introduced “Push and Play” tactics to the squad and helped them get out of the Second Division in 1950 and win the league title the very next year in 1951.

The Golden Era:

After a shaky start in 1958, Bill Nicholson was elected as the club manager, Things started slow but escalated quickly with him as he guided the club to many honours during his tenure. Under his supervision, the team attained a League title in 1961, one Cup Winners’ Cup (1963), three FA Cups (1961, 1962, 1967), two League Cups (1971, 1973), and UEFA Cup (1972). Undoubtedly he is the most victorious manager in the club’s history.

In his sixteen years at the club, Bill brought glory to the club which it wholly deserved but later he resigned due to multiple reasons 1974. Bill’s departure didn’t prove fruitful for the club as they were relegated to the Second Division.

Domestic and International Success of Tottenham:

After Nicholson’s departure, Tottenham was struggling which lead to the signing of Burkinshaw who steered the club towards Two FA Cups (1981,1982) and a UEFA Cup (1984). Since then the club has been a regular contender for the title ending in the mid-table every season.

The early years were the most successful for Tottenham as they struggle to lift more trophies in future. Tottenham experienced less glory in the new decade.

Premier League:

Tottenham is unfortunate in the Premier League and never got to lift the trophy. The team came close to winning the title in 2017 and UEFA Champions League in 2019 but didn’t win any of these too. Mauricio Pochettino was the head coach of Tottenham until 2019 when the team had a bad season and he got sacked. Jose the Portuguese mastermind was elected as the club manager in 2019 and since then the team is showing great potential. Tottenham consists of great players who can win the club its forgotten glory. Harry Kane is their leading striker with skilful players like Gareth Bale, Son Heung-min, Delli Alli, Lucas and Hugo Lloris.

Badge:

Tottenham’s crest always consisted of a cockerel in the centre. In 1956 the Badge was majorly changed with different local landmarks on it. In 2006 their logo was simplified with just a cockerel standing on a vintage football. This version of the badge was similar to the original badge and is still in use.

Stadium:

Initially, the club was founded by school boys from the Tottenham grammar school and they used to play in a public ground (Tottenham Marshes) in 1882 which was changed later to Northumberland park in 1888. Tottenham was getting fan favourites and required a proper venue for the club, after much thought, Tottenham moved to White Hart Lane in 1899. The White Hart Lane stadium was fully demolished after the end of 2017 and was replaced by Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. This stadium is shared by Tottenham and for NFL games. Equipped with the latest technologies the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is also the second biggest stadium in England and one of the most beautiful stadiums in the world of football.
