Argentina has a large history with football, with many prominent clubs and talented players emerging out of the country. It has reached the pinnacle of the sport. The teams have a huge fan base and loyalty which are recognized and respected by the football community. These clubs have produced many greats of the game including Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi. 1. Club Atlético River Plate

Club Atlético River Plate, also famously known as River Plate, is an Argentine football club based out of Buenos Aires. It was founded on 25 May 1901  after merging Santa Rosa” and “La Rosales” by Leopold who was also its first president, it is home to the gigantic Estadio Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti stadium which has a seating capacity of over 84,000. It won its first league title in 1920 and Víctor Caamaño was the first official manager of the club who also led them to a 1932 title win.

The club has a total of seventy trophies, which consists of thirty-eight league titles, fourteen league cups, and eighteen international cups.  Amadeo Carrizo, a goalkeeper has the highest amount of appearances with 520 matches and Angel Labruna is the all-time top goal scorer of the club with 317 goals in just 515 matches, he also won six trophies as manager(1975-81).

The longest-serving manager was Argentina José María Minella who won eight trophies. Enzo Francescoli is the current manager of the squad. Recently Jorge Pablo Brito was elected the president, the club stands first in group A of the first division and is on its way to winning its 39th league title.

2. Club Atlético Boca Juniors 

Boca Juniors is an Argentine football club based in La Boca, Buenos Aires. It was founded on 3rd April 1905 by a group of Greek and Italian boys. Esteban Baglietto was the first chairman of the club. It is home to the Alberto José Armando Stadium which has a seating capacity of 57,200.

It won its first league title in 1919. Mario Fortunato was the first official manager of the team and led them to two league titles. The team has 74 trophies which is the highest by any Argentinian club. It consists of thirty-five league titles, seventeen domestic cups, and twenty-two international cups. Carlos Bianchi is the most successful manager, winning nine trophies during his time at the club.

The Juniors has played over 114 seasons in the first division. Martin Palermo is the all-time highest goal scorer with 236 goals and Rober Mouzo has the highest amount of appearances, playing 426 matches. Jorge Almirón is the current manager of the club with Jorge Amor Ameal as the chairman. The club currently sits 11th in the group B of the first division.

3. Club Atlético Independiente

Club Atlético Independiente is an Argentine football club, based in the city of Avellaneda, Greater Buenos Aires. It was founded on 1 January 1905 by a group of employees from a shoe store located in Buenos Aires and Rosendo Degiorgi was appointed president of the club. It is home to  Estadio Libertadores de América stadium which has a seating capacity of 42,069.

Hungary Máximo Garay was the first manager of the club. It won its first league title in 1922.  The club has won 46 trophies which consists of sixteen league titles, nine league cups, and twenty-one international cups. Arsenio Erico is the all-time top scorer of the club with 295 goals and Ricardo Bochini has the highest number of appearances, playing for 638 matches

José Omar Pastoriza was the most successful manager with three league titles. Carlos Tevez is the current manager of the team and Néstor Grindett was recently elected the president of the club. It currently stands at the 2nd position of the Group A table of the Premeira division.

4. Racing Club de Avellaneda

The club also officially known as Racing Club is an Argentinian football club based in  Avellaneda, a city in the Buenos Aires Province. It was founded on 25 March 1903 by a group of Buenos Aires Great Southern Railway employees. It is home to the Estadio Presidente Perón stadium which has a seating capacity of over 60,000.

According to data available, Guillermo Stabile was the first official manager of the team, they won their first league title in 1915, it won a total of thirty-nine trophies, including eighteen league titles, fifteen league cups, and six international cups. Natalio Perinetti has the most appearances with 405 matches and Alberto Ohaco is the all-time highest top scorer of the club with 243 goals.

Diego Maradona also managed the team in 1995 but didn’t have much success. It was founded on 4th August 1905  by a group of players and fans who broke away from Gimnasia De La Plata club and Miguel Gutierrez was elected the first president. It is home to the Estadio Jorge Luis Hirschi stadium, which has a seating capacity of 32,530.

Guillermo Stabile was the first official manager of the team (1940-41), they won their first league title in 1913. it has won a total of sixteen trophies, including six league titles, four league cups, and six international cups. Manuel Pelegrína has the most appearances with 489 matches and  Alberto Zozaya is the all-time highest top scorer of the club with  34 goals.

Osvaldo Zubeldio managed the team for seven years winning six trophies making him the longest-serving and the most successful manager of the team, Eduardo Dominguez is the current manager with Martin Gorostegui as the president. The club stands in 10th position in the group B table of the premiera division.

6. San Lorenzo De Almagro

Commonly known as San Lorenzo is an Argentinian football club based out of Boedo district, Bueno Aires it was founded on 1st April 1908 by a group of boys that played football in the corner streets of the city. Father Lorenzo Massa was the founding father of the club. it is home to the Estadio Pedro Bidegain stadium, which has a seating capacity of 47,000. 

Fritz Kerr was the first official manager of the team, they won their first league title in 1923. It has won a total of twenty-one trophies, including fifteen league titles, two league cups, and four international cups. 7. Club Atletico Velez Sarsfield

Club Atletico Velez Sarsfield is an Argentinian football club based in Liniers, Buenos Aires. The club was founded on 1st January 1910 by three young men who were players in a local league. Luis Barredo was elected the first Chairman. It is home to the Jose Amalfitani Stadium Liniers Stadium, which has a seating capacity of 49,450.

Victoria Spinetto was the first official and longest-serving manager of the club, they won their first league title in 1968. 8. Club de Gimnasia y Esgrima La Platais

Club de Gimnasia y Esgrima La Platais is an Argentinian football club based in the city of La Plata, Buenos Aires Province it was founded on 3 June 1887 by a civil association. Saturnino Perdriel was elected the first president. it is home to the Estadio Juan Carmelo Zerillo, La Plata stadium, which has a seating capacity of 24,500. José Ripullone was the first manager and won the only league title making him the most successful manager of the club. They won their first and only league title in 1929. The club has won a total of 21 trophies, including one league title, three league cups, and sixteen friendly cups.

9. Club Atlético Huracánis

Club Atlético Huracánis is an Argentinian football club based in the Parque Patricios neighbourhood of Buenos Aires. It was founded on 1 November 1908 by a group of boys from Nueva Pompeya, Buenos Aires, José Laguna was elected the first president. it is home to Estadio Tomás Adolfo Ducóthe stadium, which has a seating capacity of 48,314.

José Durand Laguna was the first manager of the team, they won their first league title in 1921. It has won a total of fourteen trophies, including five league titles, and nine league cups. 10. Club Atlético Newell’s Old Boys

Club Atlético Newell’s Old Boys is an Argentinian football club based in  Rosario, Santa Fe. It was founded on 3 November 1903 by Claudio Newell who called on teachers, pupils, and alumni of the school his father had established to sign the act of foundation of the club and Víctor Heitz was elected the first president. Manuel Fleitas Solich was the first official manager of the team, they won their first league title in 1974. It has won a total of 26 trophies, including six league titles, three league cups, and 17 regional cups. Gerardo Martino has the most appearances playing for 504 matches and  Víctor Ramos is the all-time top scorer of the club with 104 goals. Marcelo Bielsa won three league titles and is considered the most successful manager of the team.

Lionel Messi, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner and arguably the greatest footballer of all time was brought up by the club. Gabriel Heinze is the current manager with Ignacio Astore as the president. The club currently stands in 12th position in the Group B table of the premiera division.
