5 Wonderkids Who Will Become Global Stars At The 2026 World Cup

Every World Cup has that one player who goes from being a “prospect” to a household name in the space of four weeks. It does not matter if the team wins the title or not but this player would go down in the history books and remembered for that particular World Cup. In 1958 it was Pelé. In 1998 it was Michael Owen. In 2018 it was Kylian Mbappé.

As we approach the summer of 2026 the scouting reports are already overflowing. We aren’t just looking at players who might be good in the future, we are looking at teenagers who are already the best players at their clubs. With the eyes of billions on the USA, Canada and Mexico these are the five wonderkids who will define the next decade of football.

5 Promising Rising Stars In The FIFA World Cup 2026

1: Lamine Yamal (Spain / FC Barcelona)

If you haven’t heard of Lamine Yamal by now you must have been living under a rock. At just 18 years old he has already won a European Championship and become the undisputed face of the new Barcelona. At a very young age he has been the center of attraction at a club like Barcelona and millions of people support him like the new Leo Messi of Camp Nou.

What makes Yamal different from every other winger is his decision-making. Most 18 year olds are erratic but Yamal plays like he has 500 professional matches under his belt. In the current 2025/26 season he has been the primary creative force for Spain and he heads into the World Cup as a genuine Ballon d’Or contender. Expect him to be the most fouled player in the tournament because defenders simply cannot get near him.

2: Estêvão Willian (Brazil / Chelsea)

Nicknamed “Messinho” back in Brazil Estêvão is the reason Chelsea fans are finally excited again. He officially moved to London in the summer of 2025 and has spent the last few months making Premier League fullbacks look like amateurs.

3: Franco Mastantuono (Argentina / River Plate)

Argentina has found their heir to Lionel Messi. Mastantuono is a 18 year old left-footed playmaker who has been tearing up the Argentine league with River Plate. He has a release clause that has every major club in Europe circling but he seems destined for Real Madrid.

His vision is scary. He can spray 40-yard passes with pinpoint accuracy and he is a dead-ball specialist. In a tournament where spaces will be tight having a player like Mastantuono who can unlock a defense with one touch is invaluable. Argentina are the defending champions and this kid is their secret weapon to keep the trophy in Buenos Aires.

4: Warren Zaïre-Emery (France / PSG)

While most wonderkids are flashy attackers Zaïre-Emery is a physical phenomenon in the middle of the pitch. He is built like a 30 year old veteran despite only being 20. He has become the heartbeat of the PSG midfield and Didier Deschamps has already made him a cornerstone of the French national team.

He wins tackles he carries the ball through pressure and he chips in with vital goals. France has arguably the deepest squad in the world but Zaïre-Emery is the engine that makes the whole thing run. If France makes it to another final he will be the one controlling the tempo.

5: Kendry Páez (Ecuador / Chelsea)

Ecuador is no longer just a “hard to beat” team—they are a factory for world-class talent. Kendry Páez is the crown jewel. Like Estêvão he joined Chelsea in 2025 and has immediately shown that he belongs at the top level.

He became the youngest ever goalscorer in South American World Cup qualifying history and his confidence is off the charts. He is a creative hub who loves to drift into the “half-spaces” and cause chaos. Ecuador is in a tough group with Germany and South Korea but with Páez leading the attack they are a nightmare for any opponent.

Why these five?

The common thread between these players is that they have all been playing “men’s football” since they were 15 or 16. The barrier to entry for young players has never been lower because their technical and physical training is now so advanced.

The 2026 World Cup won’t just be about the final dance for legends like Messi or Ronaldo. It’s about the arrival of the new kings. By the time the final is played in New Jersey on July 19th these five names will be the ones every kid in the world is wearing on the back of their jersey.
