Busquets relationship with Barcelona is not a one-year or two-year story. Be it his dad or himself he had it written in his destiny to be a part of Barcelona. He joined the Barcelona youth ranks in the year 2005. He scored 7 goals in 26 matches becoming a consistent player and performing satisfactorily according to his role. He was promoted to the B team after 2 years under Pep Guardiola and contributed the team to reaching the third division. Due to his consistent and appreciable performance, he was also promoted and made his first-team debut in the Copa Catalunya as a substitute.

He played his first La Liga match in 2008 which was a 1-1 draw with Racing Santander and scored his second goal on 22 October where he scored the goal in the 15th minute of the match and won by 5-0 over Basel in the group stage. On 22 December 2008, he signed a contract of his buy-out for €80 million. In 2009 March he scored his first league goal against Athletic Bilbao and initiated a 2-0 win. Around a year later he signed a new contract with the team increasing his stay till 2023 and also the buyout clause from 200M pounds to 500M pounds. On November 24 2018 he played his memorable 500th game with the club and also reached his 100th Champions League appearance. On 9 January, Sergio made his 600th appearance in a match against Granada which was an outstanding 4-0 win.

As Messi left Barcelona and decided to continue his journey with PSG, Busquets was the new captain and finally in January 2023, he appeared for the 700th time from Barcelona.
