Top 10 Best Clubs In Eredivisie (Dutch League)

The Eredivisie is the top division of Dutch football. It was founded in 1956, following a relegation promotion process between the eighteen teams competing, and unlike other leagues, only the top two teams compete in the UEFA Champions League. Ajax has won the most league titles (36 times). The league also produced the three-time Ballon d’Or winner, Johan Cyruff including current top players Frankie De Jong and Matthijs de Ligt

1: Amsterdamsche Football Club Ajax

Ajax is a Dutch football club based in Amsterdam, it was founded on 18 March 1900 by three footballers, Floris Stempel was elected the first chairman of the club. It is home to the Johan Cyruff Arena stadium which has a seating capacity of 55,865. Jack Kirwan was the first manager of the team, they won their first league title in 1917-18.

Ajax is considered the best Dutch Football club and has won a total of 75 trophies including the highest amount of league titles(36) and domestic cups (29) and also the only Dutch club to win 4 UEFA Champions League, 1 Cup winner’s Cup and 2 super Cups, they also won a UEFA cup in 1992 . Danny Blind has the most appearances playing 493 matches and Johan Cyruff is the all-time highest top scorer of the club with 196 goals, Rinus Michels won 9 trophies for the club including four league titles and is considered the most successful manager of the team, John van ‘t Schip is the current manager with Frank Eijken as the chairman.

2: Feyenoord Rotterdam

Feyenoord is a Dutch football club based in Rotterdam. It was founded on 19 July 1908 in the pub De Vereeniging and Gerardus Dirk van Leerdam was elected the first chairman. It is home to the De Kuip stadium which has a seating capacity of 51,177. Engel Geneugelijk was the first Dutch manager of the team, they won their first league title in 1924. It has won a total of 37 trophies, including 16 league titles, 17 league cups, and 3 European cups. Wim Jansen has the most appearances playing 488 matches and  Dirk Kuyt is the all-time highest top scorer of the club with 118 goals.

Richard Kohn led the club to two league titles and is the successful manager of the team, it is also important to note Ernst Franz won them their first European cup in 1970. Arend Martijn Slot is the current manager, he has already led the team to a league title in the previous season, and Toon van Bodegom is the current manager of the team.

3: Philips Sport Vereniging 

PSV is a Dutch football club based in Eindhoven. it was founded on 31 August 1913 by Philips employees in Philips Sportpsark which is also their stadium and has a capacity of 35,119. Jan Willem Hofkes was elected the first chairman,  Kees Meijnders was the first manager of the team, and they won their first league title in 1928. it has won a total of 51 trophies, including 24 league titles, 29 domestic cups, and two European cups.  

Willy van der Kuijlen has the most appearances playing 528 matches and is also the all-time highest top scorer of the club with 308 goals, they also won 10 nil against current champions Feyenoord in 2010. Guus Hiddink managed the team for 12 years (4 years as an assistant), winning 12 trophies, including 6 league titles making him the most successful manager of the team, Peter Bosz is the current manager with Marcel Brandz as the chairman The club stands at 1st position of the league table with 36 points.

4: FC Twente

Twente is a Dutch football club based in it was founded on 1st July 1965 by a merger of two clubs (Sportclub Enschede and the Enschedese Boy) was Friedrich Donenfeld elected the first chairman, it is home to the De Grolsch Veste which has a seating capacity of 30,205. Kees Rijvers was the first manager of the team, they won their first and only league title in 2010. 

The club has won a total of seven trophies, including one league title, and six domestic cups, and was runners-up for the Europa League in 1975 Sander Boschke has the most appearances playing 671 matches and  Blaise Nkufo is the all-time highest top scorer of the club with 114 goals was is the longest serving and Steve McClaren won the team their only titles and is the most successful manager of the team, Joseph Oosting is the current manager with Paul van der Kraan as the chairman.

5: Sparta Rotterdam

Sparta Rotterdam is a Dutch football club based in Rotterdam, it was founded on 1 April 1888 by a treasurer called Hartevelt Hoos Oostvestple, Rob Westerhof was elected the first chairman. it is home to the Sparta Stadion which has a seating capacity of 11,026.  

Alex Pastoor was the first manager of the team, and they won their first league title in 1909. It has won a total of 9 trophies, including 6 league titles, and 3 domestic cups. Pim Doesburg has the most appearances playing 421 matches and Janusz Kowalik is the all-time highest top scorer of the club with 142 goals. Edgar Chadwick is the most successful manager of the team, Jeroen Rijsdijk is the current manager with Leo Ruijs as the president.

6: FC Utrecht

FC Utrecht was founded on 1 July 1970, by the merger of VV DOS, USV Elinkwijk and Velox. it is home to the Stadion Galgenwaard which has a seating capacity of 23,750. Bert Jacobs was the first manager of the team, they won their first league title in 1954, it has won a total of eight trophies including three league titles, four domestic cups, and one European Intertoto cup. 

Leo van Veen has the most appearances playing 408 matches and is also the all-time highest top scorer of the club with 163 goals. Foeke Booy is the longest-serving (12 years) and has won three trophies making him the most successful manager of the team, Ron Jans is the current manager with Steef Klop as the chairman. The club stands in 16th position of the league table with 9 points.

7: Alkmaar Zaanstreek 

Alkmaar is a Dutch football club based in Alkmaar and the Zaan district, it was founded on 10 May 1967 as a result of a merger of Alkmaar ’54 and FC Zaanstreek.. it is home to the AFAS Stadion which has a seating capacity of 19,478, Gerrit van Wijhe was the first manager of the team, and they won their first league title in 1981 it has won a total of seven trophies, including two league titles, fifth domestic cups and were runners up of Europa cup.

Kees Kist has the most appearances in matches and is also the all-time top scorer of the club with 252 goals. John van den Brom is the longest serving (5 years) and Georg Keßler won three trophies and is also the only manager to take the team to a European runners making him the most successful manager of the team, Pascal Jansen is the current manager with as René Neelissen the chairman. The club stands in 4th position of the league table with 26 points.

8: NEC Nijmegen

Nijmegen was founded on 15 November 1900 by three men (namely August Lodenstijn, Antoon Kuypers, and Wouter de Lent. it is home to the Goffertstadion which has a seating capacity of 12,500,  Ferenz György was the first official manager of the team, they won their first league title in 1975, won two total trophies both of ten were two league titles and were runners up four times. They also rank 116 in the UEFA ranking.

Sije Visser has the most appearances playing for 383 matches Franc Jennson is the all-time top scorer of the club with 56 goals and Piet de Visser is the most successful manager of the team with one league. Rogier Meijer is the current manager with Ron van Oijen as the chairman.

9: SBV Vitesse

Vitesse was founded on 14 May 1892 by a group of wealthy students and  Frans Dezentjé was elected the first chairman. it is home to the GelreDome stadium which has a seating capacity of 21,248.

Edgar Chadwick was the official first manager of the team, they won their second division title in 1976 and it has won only two domestic cups. They are ranked 103 in the UEFA rankings.  Theo Bos has the highest number of appearances playing for 429 matches and  Henk ‘Charly’ Bosveld is the all-time highest top scorer of the club with 84 goals.

Heinrich Schwarz is the longest-serving manager (9 years)and Henk Fraser won a domestic cup and led them to Europa Cup qualification making him the most successful manager of the team, Phillip Cocu resigned from the team and the club is without a manager.  Henk Parren is the current chairman. Mason Mount and Martin Odegaard were part of their academy. The club stands at 20th position of the league table with 8 points.

10: Go Ahead Eagles 

Go Ahead Eagles was founded by the Hollander brothers. It is home to the De Adelaarshorst stadium which has a seating capacity of 9,909. Fred Fitton was the first manager of the team, they won their first league title in 1917 and it has won a total of 4 league titles but with no success in the domes I Cups and European Cups.

Johnny Oude Wesselink has the most appearances with 379 matches and  Cees Van Koote is the all-time highest top scorer of the club with 92 goals.   František Fadrhonc managed them for eight years and is the longest-serving manager of the club, René Hake is the current manager with Jan Willem van Dop is the chairman. The club stands in 5th position of the league table with 21 points.
