Top 3 Clubs With Most Away Wins At Old Trafford

Old Trafford, the theatre of dreams and the home of Manchester United has seen thirteen Premier League titles being lifted, with a seating capacity of over 70,000 and the likes of Sir Bobby Charlton, Sir Alex Ferguson, Cristiano Ronaldo and many others. It has been a fortress for the club which has never been relegated in the Premier League history. In the 31 years of the competition, only a few had the opportunity to walk away with a win. Let us look into greater details of those clubs.

1. Manchester City FC

It is natural to see Man City in the first position since they are the biggest rivals of Manchester United. The team has won nine away games against the Red Devils, making it the highest in Premier League history. The iconic Manchester Derby was fairly one-sided until 2008 when the latter was acquired by the Abu Dhabi United Group, which invested billions in the team, bringing in the likes of Roberto Mancini, Carlos Tevez, and Mario Balotelli. They won their first Premier League trophy in 2012 with a brilliant last-minute goal from Sergio Aguero and beating United only on goal difference. It is still one of the most iconic moments in the history of the Premier League.

In the subsequent seasons, City would go on to win five more league titles under various managers, most popularly under Pep Guardiola who has changed the way English Football is played with tiki-taka tactics, bringing in players like Kevin De Bryune, Phil Foden, and Ederson Moraes.

Last year, the club won their first-ever Champions League title and accomplished the treble with Haaland scoring 48 goals, becoming the single-season top scorer of the club, a record previously held by Tommy Johson for 94 years. In the last encounter, City won 3-0 against their rivals. They are currently on the top of the league table with 28 points and in all probability likely to win the title.

2. Liverpool FC

Liverpool is considered one of the best in English Football, the club has won seven away games against Manchester United making it the second highest in the league, although the club has won 18 titles in the first division of English Football, their successful history is shared by the likes of Robbie Fowler, Micheal Owen and Steven Gerrard, the club has two records consisting nine league cups and six champions league titles, the highest amongst any club in England.

In 2015, the club signed Jurgen Klopp, known for bringing the team back to its glorious and rich history by leading the team to a Champions League title in 2019 and its first premier league title in 2020. Their recent form has been a part of various debates in the football community, last year the team ranked fifth outside the Champions League qualifications, surprising everyone, especially their fans, and making it the second occasion during Klopp’s time with the team and earlier this year in an encounter against the Red Devils, the team lost four nil.

3. Chelsea FC

Chelsea also famously known as ‘The Blues’ has won eighteen times in their sixty matches against United, out of which seven have been away wins, making them the third highest in the league history. The club has won five Premier League titles and two Champions League, under the likes of Frank Lampard, Fernando Torres, and Didier Drogba. They have a better win record against United as the latter won seventeen times, one less than Chelsea in their Premier League encounters.

The team has been on a low ever since Roman Abramovich left ownership of the team which led to a leadership vacuum and the team ranked 12th spot during last year’s Premier League campaign in 2023. They also lost 4-1  in their recent encounter against the Red Devils. The situation in the club hasn’t gotten any better as it stands in the tenth position in the league table with only sixteen points.
