1: Middlefart and Odense (1995 – 2008)

It all started in Middelfart, as a child growing up Christian had access to club fields nearby where senior players practised. With his talented father as his coach, he started training early on in the local academy. He won the Local Youth Championship with the club three times in four years. In the same year, he joined Odense Boldklub.

In 2006 he won the U16 championship with the club alongside his friend Rasmus. Both of them had been friends since the age of five. The duo was dynamic and scored back to back which caught the attention of scouts from afar. While he received many offers from big clubs like Milan, and Chelsea during his 3 years in Odense he was ultimately persuaded by John Olsen to join Ajax.

2: Ajax (2009-2013)

In 2008 Eriksen joined the Amsterdam-based club for a two year and half contract. It was a crucial move in his career. He made his first team debut in a match against Breda which ended up in a tie. During a match against Go-Ahead Eagles in the Dutch Cup, he scored his first goal for the club. By the end of the season, he had played 21 matches with 1 goal. He took his time to settle in and set his roots in the new place.

The Dutch press branded him as the “New Wesley Sneijder”. One of his most memorable games came on December 8. Cristian Eriksen joined Tottenham Hotspur from Ajax in August 2013 for a reported £11 million. It was a big move for the player as he finally got the chance to play in the Premier League. After he moved to Tottenham his number of assists increased significantly and so did his skills and level of game. He finally got the recognition he deserved, he had a great spell in Tottenham.

The skilful midfielder played almost 60 matches for the club before he had to abruptly depart from the club. In late 2021, because of the rules in the country, he had to terminate his contract with Milan

A cardiac arrest on the pitch in the opening match at the European Championship changed his career trajectory. He received emergency treatment on the field for 13 minutes before he was rushed to hospital. His recovery was speedy yet his football career took a hit. Speculations were made about whether he would be able to play ever. Due to local health regulations, he was not allowed to play with a cardiac device fitted on the field. It was unfortunate but it was the rule. It was the reason why his time at Inter Milan was short.

6: Brentford (2021-2022)

An event like that can stop any weak player from ever entering the field but Eriksen is not weak and did not give up. After 14 months recovering from his health issues he went to Brentford on a six-month contract in January 2022 as he was without a club. It was the first club that brought him back to the Premier League. World waited for his return, his first appearance as a substitute silenced his talks of never playing again and his first assist was in a match against Burnley. Christian scored his first goal again in the Premier League helping the club secure a historic win against Chelsea.

7: Manchester United (2022 – Present)

Later in July in the same year Manchester United made his arrival announcement on a free transfer. According to him, this move has been years in the making. His presence in the club brought balance in the midfield as the experts claim. Christian might be recovering and 31 years old but his influence on the field is the same as ever. He missed the 2022-2023 EFL Cup finals and matches after it due to an ankle injury. He is eager to return after recovery.
